Christian Reformed Church in North America leaders are calling for congregations across the denomination to keep Nigeria, which continues to be wracked by violence, in their prayers.

The latest incident occurred on Saturday when a suicide bomber attempted to drive into a crowded area where people had gathered to watch a televised European soccer match.

News sources say the bomber’s car exploded before he reached his intended target, killing himself and two others.

The bomb exploded while the car was traveling toward a public-viewing site at Jos View Centre for the televised Champions League soccer match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

The bombing on Saturday night follows two bombings last week in Jos. The bombings last week killed more than 100 and injured more than 50, says a story posted by World Renew.

Also, last month terrorists kidnapped 270 schoolgirls in a remote area in northern Nigeria in which the CRC has worked, as reported in another CRC article.

“Pray that the message preached from pulpits will continue to be one of grace and peace, so that the impulse to violence will be restrained. We covet your ongoing prayers for Jos and for Nigeria as a whole,” CRC leaders said following the bombing on Saturday.

They said that all CRCNA personnel in Nigeria are accounted for and safe and that security precautions are being taken.
