Kabetu Appointed as CRWM Canada Director

January 11, 2012

Christian Reformed World Missions (CRWM) announced today that Steven Kabetu has been appointed as CRWM’s Canada director.

CRWM Director Gary Bekker said that Kabetu will make the transition to his new responsibilities in early February.

Kabetu was born and raised in Kenya, originally coming to Canada to study at Toronto’s York University. He holds degrees in economics and environmental studies.

Since 2006, he has served as coordinator for the Canadian office of the Christian Reformed Church’s Ministry of Race Relations. He also served as a member of the CRWM Board from 1999-2002.

Bekker said the role of the Canada director is to be a face and a voice for Christian Reformed World Missions in Canada. The director works in collaboration with other agencies and ministries for the benefit of CRC congregations, directs the gathering of prayer and financial resources for the ministry and maintains compliance with Canadian law and regulations.

Bekker said that Kabetu is a third-generation Christian “who knows from his grandfather’s experience how important it is that missionaries cross geographic, cultural and linguistic boundaries to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ.

“I believe that he will be a very able communicator of mission vision and a motivator for response to our Lord’s call to mission as well as a capable administrator,” Bekker said.

“I am grateful to our Lord for providing Steve and for Steve’s willingness and eagerness to serve in this capacity."
