Synod Approves New Banner Mandate
After heated discussion at last year’s synod about articles printed in The Banner, the magazine of the Christian Reformed Church, Synod 2015 approved a slightly changed mandate.
The mandate was revised to more clearly specify the parameters of how the Banner editor exercises editorial judgment. Last year, Banner editor Rev. Bob De Moor apologized to synod for errors in editorial judgment.
De Moor is retiring from The Banner later this summer, and synod also approved the process by which a search for a new editor will take place. It is expected that a nominee for the position will be presented to Synod 2016. Rev. Leonard Vander Zee will serve for a year as interim editor.
Synod also reaffirmed the right of the Banner editor to appeal to synod if necessary to resolve a dispute over editorial content.
