Myanmar Update

CRWRC Newsroom | August 14, 2008

CRWRC supporters donated an incredible $720,000 for Cyclone Nargis survivors in Burma/Myanmar. CRWRC responded quickly with $100,000 in emergency food, plus $50,000 for other supplies such as blankets, kitchen kits, shelter, and medical kits. Another $300,000 for fishing boats has been proposed to Canadian Foodgrains Bank, while plans to restore livelihoods and rebuild homes for the neediest disaster survivors are also under consideration.

Funds donated to CRWRC were matched 1:1 by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as a part of a pool of resources raised by Canadian relief organizations. The matched funds will be used by various organizations for ongoing Burma/Myanmar relief and rehabilitation.

Josh Folkema, a CRWRC relief and development worker in South Eastern Africa has been in Burma/Myanmar since mid July. Folkema has been performing needs assessments alongside World Concern, CRWRC’s partner in Burma/Myanmar.  He is also designing and implementing the food aid and parts of the livelihood program.
