Conference To Explore 'Missional Living'

Touching Lives, Impacting CommunitiesDec. 18, 2008 -- An upcoming conference sponsored by Christian Reformed Home Missions will delve deeply into how churches can impact their communities through outreach and evangelism.

"Missional Living: Touching Lives . . . Impacting Communities" will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church in Georgetown, Ontario. Presented by the Home Missions Central and Eastern Canada Ministry Team, the conference will feature 13 workshops covering topics such as prayer, evangelism, youth, church planting, neighborhood outreach, and small groups.

"The purpose of the event is to inspire and equip churches and individuals for outreach and to engage in God’s mission," says Hilda VanderKlippe, ministry developer for evangelism for the Central and Eastern Canada Ministry Team. "It will feature testimonies from churches that are engaged in their communities."

The conference keynote speaker is Dwayne Cline, pastor of Hughson St. Baptist Church in urban Hamilton, Ontario, and a regular speaker at Canadian churches and universities. For several years, Hughson St. Baptist has been ministering to the North Hamilton community through needs-related programs and friendship evangelism.

Cline’s address, entitled "From Maintenance to Missions," will explore how to navigate a church’s journey from maintaining status quo to being a missional force for God’s kingdom. Cline will discuss basic principles and share experiences from various churches.

The conference is the third annual evangelism event presented by the Central and Eastern Canada Ministry Team. According to VanderKlippe, previous events have attracted between two and three hundred people.

The Home Missions Central and Eastern Canada Ministry Team serves CRCs in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland.
