Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees (BOT) is the governing board of the Christian Reformed Church. It is organized as two legal entities, one in Michigan and the other in Canada. Together these form the Joint-Ministries Management Committee (JMMC) and are known as the Board of Trustees of the Christian Reformed Church in North America.
The Board has 30 members, with equal numbers from the United States and Canada. The Board normally meets three times per year to deal with matters of polity, program, and finance. Polity matters often arise from assignments given the Board by synod. Program and finance matters usually arise out of the ministries of the agencies and the work associated with the office of the executive director.
The Executive Committee of the Board meets as needed. Canadian trustees also meet separately to consider Canadian issues. This arrangement complies with Canadian regulations governing Canadian registered charities and provides a helpful way to consider and recommend solutions to issues unique to the Canadian churches.
A central focus of the Board’s work is to enhance the ministries of the whole church, especially those that are carried out through the denominational agencies and educational institutions.
