World Hunger:  ONE TABLE

October 18 - November 1, 2009

For thirty years, CRWRC has helped Christian Reformed Churches highlight global hunger and participate in a response.  Traditionally, this campaign happens during the weeks leading up to World Hunger Sunday (designated by the CRC Synod in 1979 to be the first Sunday in November).  However, the materials are designed so that they can be used at any time of year.

This year’s campaign, ONE TABLE, reminds us of our global family in the body of Christ.  As we strive for unity with God’s people everywhere, we are reminded of the disparity between us.  While some sit down at our tables of plenty, others are left hungry.  What can we do to change this?

The campaign includes a daily devotional guide intended to help your family connect with your global brothers and sisters as you sit at your own table to have a meal.  There are prayers and recipes from around the world to remind you of the rich traditions that other cultures can offer us.  There are stories about CRWRC’s work to remind you of the reality of poverty and what is being done to overcome it.  There are suggestions for ways you can give and get involved in CRWRC’s ministry.  And there are biblical reflections to help you prepare for World Hunger Sunday.

The campaign also includes everything your church will need to hold a World Hunger Sunday service.  Tying into the theme of “ONE TABLE,” this year’s campaign encourages churches to include the sacrament of Lord’s Supper in their service as a reminder that the abundance of God’s table is meant for rich and poor alike. The Leader’s Guide includes a sample service, song suggestions, bulletin announcements, children’s sermons, instructions for holding a “World At The Table” fundraising dinner, and more.
