
Position Title: Program Volunteer
Location: Jos, Nigeria
Number of Positions: 1 Individual
CRCNA Agency Involved: CRWRC
Time Commitment: 15 months – 24 months (plus pre-field preparation and orientation)
Dates Opportunity Is Available: As soon as possible
Purpose: This position will work closely with the CRWRC Program Consultant and CRWRC’s partners to learn and gain experience in international community development.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Orientation: Pre-departure orientation ans well as field orientation upon arrival.
2. Learn about community development and CRWRC’s values through readings and hands-on experiences.
3. Assist the Program Consultant in the following areas with national partners:
a. Participate in monitoring and evaluation of various programs.
b. Work with partners to develop proposals, grants and budgets.
c. Learn Results-Based Management tools and assist partners in the use of RBM.
d. Assist partners in the implementation of evaluation recommendations.
e. Assist CRWRC and partners in developing MOU’s.
f. Facilitate communications between North American donors and partners.
4. Language lessons - Hausa
5. Participate in West Africa Ministry Team and Nigeria Team activities and responsibilities.
6. Complete monthly reports regarding work.
7. Meet with mentor/supervisor bi-weekly
Qualifications:
1. Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ.
2. Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development.
3. Ability to work in a team environment.
4. Proactive and able to work and guide own learning.
5. Able to nurture own faith in a sometimes isolated environment.
6. Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture.
7. Able to submit to the direction and supervision of management staff of CRWRC-Nigeria.
8. Must be highly flexible and adaptable. Open to changes in the position or work as circumstances dictate.
9. Commitment to core CRWRC development values.
10. Willing to do work and teach in appropriate ways which can be sustained by partner/community after volunteer has left.
11. Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture, and dealing with cultural stress.
12. Able to submit to the culture and organizational practices valued by CRWRC.
13. Able to live in conditions with unreliable access to water and electricity and increased exposure to illness.
14. An ability to view life with a sense of humor when things become difficult.
15. Good oral communication and writing skills.
16. Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
17. Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support.
Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelors degree and a desire to work in a cross cultural setting along with a willingness to learn about different cultures.
Financial Requirements of the volunteer: Please note that budget is estimated in USD.
Volunteer will be required to raise all funds needed prior to departure.
Estimation of $13,000 USD (for 15 months) OR $19,000 USD (for 24 months) for RT Airfare to Nigeria, Transfers, In-country travel, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Living Allowance, Immunizations, Visa Costs, Cell Phone, and Other Personal Expenses
