CRWRC Malawi Maintenance & Improvement Volunteer


Position Title:
  Maintenance and Improvement Volunteer

Location:  Nkhoma, Malawi

Number of Positions: 2
Note: Opportunity for spouse to participate by teaching classes in gardening, sewing and computers.

CRCNA Agency Involved: CRWRC

CRWRC Partner Involved:  Church of Central Africa Presbyterian

Time Commitment:  2-4 Months

Dates Opportunity Is Available:  Opportunity dates are dependant upon staff, partner and volunteer availability. Applications are due 4 - 6 months in advance of placement.

Specific Responsibilities
:  
1. Learn the regional, country, and community context and culture.
2. Complete needed maintenance and upkeep on buildings at Malingunde Women’s Training School.
3. Create maintenance plan for continued upkeep
4. Participate and contribute in CCAP meetings, staff training, and staff devotionals
5. Complete monthly reports regarding work
6. Meet with mentor/supervisor bi-weekly

Qualifications:
1. Some experience in construction.
2. Some mission experience in developing country, a plus. 
3. Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ, who is a Canadian or US resident.
4. Able to nurture own faith in a sometimes isolated environment. 
5. Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture. 
6. Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development. 
7. Commitment to CRWRC values.
8. Proactive and able to work with little or no supervision. 
9. Willing to do work and teach in appropriate ways which can be sustained by partner/community after volunteer has left. 
10. Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture. 
11. Able to submit to the culture and organizational practices valued by CRWRC and CCAP. 
12. Good oral communication and writing skills.
13. Some proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
14. Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support. 

Financial Requirements of the volunteer:
4 Month Term: Estimation of $6,880 US for RT Airfare to Malawi, Transfers, In-country travel, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Monthly Living Allowance, Immunizations, Visa Costs, Field Learning Trips and Communication.
