Harry Potter Ties Hot Again at Calvin

With the newest Harry Potter movie (“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”) opening this week, Calvin’s Brenda Hoeksema reports another run on neckties at the Campus Store.

That’s because one of the ties carried by Calvin is pretty much a dead ringer for the necktie Harry and his friends have worn at Hogwarts in prior Potter movies. And when Harry Potter fans type “maroon and gold tie” into a search engine such as Google or Yahoo the first website URL that is displayed goes to the Calvin College Campus Store where one of the items for sale, and pictured, is a maroon and gold, diagonally striped tie.

As the movie nears its premiere Hoeksema says the orders are picking up.

“Today, I received a on-line order for a tie from Durham, North Carolina,” she says. “Yesterday we sold four that I know of. And the past two months we have sold about 40 ties which is over double what we sold in the previous two months.”
