Mission Fest to Celebrate CRWM's 125 Years
Christian Reformed World Missions
A range of speakers, videos and roundtable discussions will be featured on Nov. 2 at Mission Fest 2013: Celebrating 125 Years of Christian Reformed World Missions.
Taking place at Unity Christian High in Orange City, Iowa, Mission Fest follows a series of celebrations that kicked off earlier this fall in Grand Rapids. At least one more celebration will occur next year in Canada.
Of the celebration set for Orange City, a promotional flyer says: “Celebrate the 125th birthday of Christian Reformed World Missions by rejoicing what God has done through the denomination's many mission efforts. Spend a Saturday remembering the past, understanding the present, and thinking about the future of missions in your life and the life of your church.”
The most recent celebration took place in Ripon, Calif. and drew about 80 people. Rev. Joel Hogan, director of international ministries for CRWM, spoke about the continuing challenges facing international ministry work.
Topics to be addressed at Mission Fest:
- Doing Missions/Being Missional: How do we carry the Gospel of Christ into a new century?
- We know what missionary teachers teach, but what must they learn?
- Understanding Islam and Learning to Love Muslims
- Redeeming Short-term Missions
- Children's Ministry: small child/BIG ISSUES!
- Life among Muslims: What I’ve learned about them.
- Agriculture in Mission
- From Tool to Bone: Biblically Reclaiming Women for Nurturing Nations
- What’s an evangelism committee for anyway?
- “Guess who’s coming to dinner”: What Anglos need to know about their new neighbors
An all-day film festival of videos created by Dordt College’s Mark Volkers, as well as an introduction by Pastor Steve Van Zanen of CRWM, and a wrap-up plenary session by Pastor John Lee, from Bethel CRC, Sioux Center, will take place as well.
