When Pastor Nancy Yang walked through the doors of Ladner CRC in Delta, B.C., she wanted to inquire about using the building to host a Chinese-language Bible study. That step of faith has since blossomed into Ladner CRC’s becoming a multicultural church seeking to meet the needs of two language groups.

The Chinese- and English-speaking communities at Ladner CRC both meet on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., and they use two separate rooms in the church building. Once a month they also have what they call “Family Worship Sunday,” in which they have joint worship and celebrate the Lord’s Supper together.

Ladner CRC is seeking to meet the needs of first-generation immigrants by ministering to them in their own language for worship and discipleship, and they offer combined activities for children, recognizing that second-generation children of immigrants often speak English.

The CRCNA’s ministry plan, Our Journey, includes four main goals, called milestones. The third of these milestones encourages building relationships with neighbors and newcomers. Ladner CRC is one great example, and many others are out there. What kinds of stories are happening in your community? Share your stories with us at [email protected].
