World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS) is collaborating daily with officials and other voluntary organizations to plan a coordinated response to Hurricane Helene, which is now reported to have killed more than 160 people, with thousands still missing across four states.

Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm, causing massive damage in the Florida panhandle before moving inland through Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and beyond starting Thursday, Sept. 26. 2024.

World Renew is requesting financial donations to fund Hurricane Helene Response. Your gifts underpin the work of World Renew DRS, which provides volunteers to muck-out homes, mitigate mold, and repair and rebuild homes in the most affected areas.

World Renew is making plans to assist with coordinated clean-up, repair, and reconstruction services among homeowners affected by destruction from hurricane winds and storm surge, even as flooding and mudslides are still affecting homes and communities in the Appalachian region this week. World Renew partner, Mennonite Disaster Services is setting up services in Asheville, North Carolina, and World Renew will offer assistance.

World Renew DRS is a voluntary non-profit organization that was started by the Christian Reformed Church and provides clean up, rebuilding, needs assessments, and long-term reconstruction services, free of charge, to disaster survivors in North America who are low income, elderly, disabled, or uninsured. World Renew works with local community organizations in disaster areas to help homeowners rebuild their houses and lives.

World Renew has more than 50 years of experience providing long-term, community-based assistance in disaster-prone areas of the United States and Canada. World Renew provides communities that have experienced a disaster with short-term clean up as well as long-term disaster recovery work that may be requested over the next one to three years or longer. They are currently working in Sarasota, Florida, repairing and rebuilding homes after Hurricane Ian in 2022.
