Synod 2022 Agenda Supplement Available
The Agenda Supplement for Synod 2022, which will begin meeting online May 25 and will meet in person June 10-16 at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Mich., are now posted on the Synod Resources page of the Christian Reformed Church in North America website.
Included in the Supplement are reports from World Renew, Calvin University, Calvin Theological Seminary, the Candidacy Committee, and the Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations Committee. The Supplement also includes an overture from Classis Southeast U.S. to revise definitions and the CRCNA’s stance on homosexuality, as well as three communications to synod—from Fellowship CRC (Brighton, Ont.), Covenant CRC (Sioux Center, Iowa), and Classis Yellowstone. In addition, there are curricula vitae from two proposed new faculty members for Calvin Theological Seminary, and several updates from the Council of Delegates.
The Program Committee of synod (officers of Synod 2019) has designated some matters (indicated by shading) in the Agenda Supplement to be considered as “consent agenda” material and received as information by way of a single recommendation to synod. All other matters in the supplemental agenda will be deliberated by the advisory committees and the assembled delegates of Synod 2022.
Synod is the annual decision-making assembly of the CRCNA. It has not been held since 2019 because of travel and in-person gathering restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Synod 2022 has a significantly large agenda that includes several weighty matters. In addition to deeming some items as “consent agenda,” the Program Committee hopes that holding the initial convening session of synod by video conference on May 25, 2022, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. (EDT) will add some efficiency to the in-person meetings and deliberations planned for the week of June 10-16.
The convening session on May 25 will include opening worship led by Encounter Church (Kentwood, Mich.) and the election of officers for Synod 2022. Tune in at crcna.org/synod/schedule-webcast.
