Synod 2015’s testimonial banquet honored four men retiring from their work for the denomination: Calvin Theological Seminary professor Rev. Richard Muller, executive director emeritus Rev. Joel Boot, Banner editor Rev. Robert De Moor, and director of World Renew-U.S., Andrew Ryskamp.
Muller, professor of historical theology, was honored by Rev. Jul Medenblik, president of the seminary. Medenblik noted that although Muller has a long bibliography citing his writing, “his legacy is his students.”
Boot was honored by Rev. Peter Borgdorff, also an executive director emeritus, who said that “none exceed the level of churchmanship he embodies.”
De Moor was honored by Gayla Postma, news editor for The Banner. “Bob’s fair-mindedness and wisdom will be missed,” she said, noting that he “constantly modeled grace under pressure and allowed everyone at The Banner to grow together and individually.”
Ryskamp was honored by Chris Van Spronsen, a former World Renew board member. Van Spronsen said Ryskamp taught him that “the Holy Spirit is always around” and noted his admiration for Ryskamp’s “hunger for mercy and justice that aided others on an international level.”
