West Michigan Prayer Summit Set

Every time she has returned from attending Christian Reformed Church in North America prayer summits in California, Felicia Bud has been deeply inspired, wondering if the same prayer-filled experience could occur at her church in West Michigan.

In late April, she will be able to help make that happen.

Modeled after prayer summits she attended in the Los Angeles area, the “West Michigan Prayer Summit: Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done” is set for Apr. 20-21 at Hillside Community Church, Grand Rapids, where Bud is a member and her husband, Daniel, is a pastor.

“I was so impressed with the worship, the speakers, and prayer times at each and every one of the prayer summits in L.A.,” she said.

“In the beginning, I did not know what to expect from the prayer time, but to my surprise it was not boring but alive, interesting, fun — if I may say that. And because God touched my heart, I wanted to bring it to Grand Rapids, to West Michigan.”

Organized in partnership with Resonate Global Mission’s Great Lakes Regional Team and Mission Innovation Team, the summit “will be an opportunity for the people of West Michigan to gather in prayer for our lives, churches, cities, communities, and country,” said Bud.

She added that the Spiritual Growth and Prayer Committee of Classis Grand Rapids South is also involved in putting on the the event.

Featured presenters include Richard Mouw, president emeritus of Fuller Theological Seminary; Mary Vandenberg, professor of systematic theology at Calvin Theological Seminary; and Pildo Joung, founder and pastor emeritus of the large and influential Sooyoungro Church in South Korea.

Also speaking will be Joseph Stowell, president of Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids; Jeffrey Hough, founding pastor and servant leader of Angel Community Church in Muskegon, Mich.; and Jim Engen, a Christian businessman who has founded several successful businesses in the past 45 years.

Worship will be led by a variety of musicians and groups, including the Calvin College Gospel Choir and the Grace Korean Church Student Choir.

“Very important to note is that this prayer summit is for ordinary people who have a desire to learn more about Jesus and about prayer,” said Bud.

“They do not need to be ‘prayer warriors’ or the head of some important committee in church; this is for everybody, old and young, male and female, from all backgrounds and nationalities.”

Also, she said, no one will be put on the spot to pray aloud if they are not ready to do that.

“We will have really good worship, testimonies, teaching times, and of course prayer times — prayers that will be divided into four or five segments at a time, between three-four minutes each,” she said.

The early-bird registration for the two-day event is $25 per person or $20/person for groups of 10 or more (after Mar. 15, the rates go up $5).
