Prayer Summit Sets Theme for 2013

January 30, 2013

“Your Kingdom Come,” the request of God’s people contained in the Lord’s Prayer, will be the theme of the Christian Reformed Church’s second Prayer Summit set for April 15-17, 2013 in Lakeview Terrace, Calif.

The well-known phrase that Christ used in the prayer he taught to his disciples will be the focus of promotions, presentations, various breakout sessions and other activities before, during and after the Summit.

Last year’s theme was “Seeking God’s Face” and, among other things, featured early-morning, Korean-style prayer.

“I enjoyed a wonderful time of worship and prayer within a multi-cultural body while at the Prayer Summit. The dawn prayer meeting was actually a typical worship service with some additional prayer time included,” Calvin religion professor David Crump said in a story after the event.

“The prayer in unison put me in mind of what synagogue prayer may have been like in the time of Jesus, where time was set for each individual to pray for his/her own personal concerns.”

As was the case in 2012, the Summit takes place at All Nations Church, a largely Korean CRC congregation that has dedicated itself to prayer.

The Summit will encourage and provide opportunities for people across the denomination to join in prayer, whether they attend the Summit or not.

Richard Mouw, president of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. will introduce the kingdom theme as the keynote speaker on the opening day of the Summit.

Others will expand on the theme.

“The first- ever CRC Prayer Summit ...was a powerful, unprecedented gathering. Over 900 people participated in person, and hundreds more prayed with them all over North America,” says information on last year’s Prayer Summit website.

For this year’s Summit, registration will open Feb.1.

Promotions for the Summit will include informational prayer packets that will be sent soon to all CRC congregations, emails to pastors and prayer coordinators, advertisements, social media and Facebook materials and announcements in bulletins.
