Each of the last three Synods had a theme to guide the prayer initiatives (40 Days of Prayer, 30 Minute Prayer Vigil, early morning prayer, Facebook prayer) and worship times throughout Synod. The themes for each year have brought a focus not only to Synod but to the prayers of thousands of people who prayed for the gatherings.
For Synod 2025, a small group gathered to pray, discern, and discuss a theme, which was approved by the Council of Delegates. Synod 2025 will be using the theme “Journey with Jesus” based on the Emmaus Road story of Luke 24, the theme also used at the ten Gather events throughout the denomination.
The “Journey with Jesus” on the road finds us with these themes:
- We had hoped - where we have disappointment, and unmet expectations
- Slow to Believe - there are times that we don’t see God at work or don’t trust the work he’s doing
- Recognizing Jesus - God is at work and we can see Jesus at work among us no matter what the circumstances
- Returning to Jerusalem - We share the good news
- Clothed with Power - The Spirit fills us for the Kingdom work where he leads.
